If you knew that there was someone who could love you deeply, without self-interest or ulterior motive, truly and sincerely, without any fear that He would hurt you or abandon you, ready even to sacrifice Himself for you, wouldn’t you want to know Him and love Him with all the strength of your heart?
Usually, only a mother can do this for her child. For a mother, her baby is above every other earthly love; that is why, for her baby alone, she can make any sacrifice, even give her own life!
And yet, there is Someone who loves us so much that, even if all the mothers in the world were to gather and unite their love, His infinite love would surpass theirs in power!
This is the One whom we must all come to know and love with all the strength of our hearts.
He is the One who created us and made us His own children!
He is the One who, when we humans were lost and wounded on the dark paths of sin, came down to earth as man, while remaining God, to free us from the bonds of Satan and to draw us once again into His divine embrace!
He is the One whose name is Love, and He has only love to give. He is a loving Father, and at the same time tender and infinitely merciful Mother.
He is the One who whispers tenderly in your ear every day, “My child, I love you,” and asks you to hold Him tightly by the hand so that you do not get lost.
He is the One who patiently waits to hear you tell Him how much you love and trust Him, and that He is the Love of your heart, your sweet Father.
He is the One to whom you now want to dedicate your heart and soul, so that you may live in Him and He in you!
This is the second step of the heavenly ladder: to let our hearts beat tenderly with childlike love and trust for our Lord, and to let our lips whisper to Him with adoration:
“My Heavenly Father, my sweet Love, I believe in You, I adore You, and I love You.”
